Overview
A DGFT Digital Signature Certificate is a special-purpose Class 3 DSC designed exclusively for DGFT (Directorate General of Foreign Trade) portal filings in India. It is mandatory for exporters and importers applying for or managing an Importer-Exporter Code (IEC), submitting applications on the DGFT e-platform, and complying with export-import licensing requirements. A standard Class 3 DSC — even if otherwise valid for MCA or GST — is not accepted on the DGFT portal without the DGFT classification.
If you are in the export-import business and need to apply for an IEC, apply for advance authorisation (AA), EPCG licences, Rosctep/MEIS benefits, star export house status, or transfer existing licences on the DGFT portal, a DGFT Certificate is compulsory. It is also required for filing Annual Performance Reports (APR) and submitting import-export documents digitally with the Customs department.

A DGFT DSC is a Class 3 digital signature issued specifically for use on the DGFT (Directorate General of Foreign Trade) portal. It is mandatory for exporters and importers to apply for an IEC, submit licence applications, and transact on the DGFT e-platform — a standard Class 3 DSC cannot substitute it on this portal.
Any individual or business with an IEC (Import Export Code) that uses the DGFT portal — for advance authorisation, EPCG licences, MEIS/RODTEP claims, star export house status, or licence transfers — requires a DGFT Certificate.
A DGFT DSC is a Class 3 DSC but issued with the DGFT Certificate type classification, making it valid specifically on the DGFT portal. A standard Class 3 Individual or Organisation DSC is not accepted for DGFT portal filings without this classification.
You need a PAN Card, Aadhaar Card with a linked mobile, your IEC Certificate, a passport-size photograph, and the Company PAN for organisation types. All documents are submitted via WhatsApp — no courier or office visit required.
