How to Register Your DSC Across Multiple Government Portals

Published August 16, 2026 · By DSCKart

A single Class 3 DSC works across all major government portals — GST, Income Tax, MCA, DGFT, EPFO and e-tender portals like GeM. But you must register or map it on each portal separately, which is a common point of confusion for first-time users.

Why Each Portal Needs Separate Registration

Your DSC is a single certificate, but every portal keeps its own record of which certificates may sign on behalf of your account. Registering — sometimes called "mapping" — tells that specific portal to accept signatures from your certificate. It doesn't happen automatically just because the DSC is valid. Mapping typically takes 2-5 minutes per portal.

Registering on the GST Portal

  1. Log in to the GST portal.
  2. Navigate to Register/Update DSC under your profile settings.
  3. Select your certificate from the signer utility (emSigner).
  4. Confirm registration — a success message appears once mapped.

Registering on the MCA V3 Portal

  1. Log in to the MCA V3 portal.
  2. Open the DSC association section under your user profile.
  3. Use emBridge (MCA's utility, different from GST's emSigner) to select and register the certificate.
  4. Confirm the association is active before signing any forms.

Registering on the Income Tax e-Filing Portal

  1. Log in to the income tax e-filing portal.
  2. Go to Profile → Register DSC.
  3. Download and use the portal's DSC utility if prompted.
  4. Complete registration before verifying a return using DSC.

Registering on the DGFT Portal

  1. Log in to your DGFT / IEC profile.
  2. Open the DSC registration section.
  3. Register your certificate using the required signer utility.
  4. Confirm before submitting any IEC-related filings.

EPFO and GeM

Both follow a similar pattern — a dedicated DSC registration section in your profile settings, usually requiring the portal's own signer utility. Since navigation shifts with portal updates, check the portal's current help documentation if the option isn't immediately visible. See our guides on DSC for EPFO and GeM e-tendering.

Common Mistake: Assuming One Registration Covers Everything

The biggest point of confusion is assuming that because a DSC works on GST, it will work on MCA or DGFT too. It won't. Each portal's registration is independent, and skipping this step is one of the most common reasons a valid, unexpired DSC still fails to sign.

Register Proactively, Not Under Deadline Pressure

Each registration takes only a few minutes, so map your DSC on every portal you're likely to use as soon as you receive it — rather than discovering the step for the first time an hour before a filing deadline. If something still fails, our DSC error troubleshooting guide covers the usual causes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does registering my DSC on one portal register it everywhere else?

No. Each government portal maintains independent DSC registration, so you must register separately on GST, MCA, Income Tax, DGFT and any other portal you plan to sign on.

How long does DSC registration take per portal?

Typically 2-5 minutes per portal, assuming the correct signer utility (emSigner, emBridge or portal-specific software) is installed and running.

Why does my DSC work on GST but not MCA?

This almost always means the DSC hasn't been registered or mapped on the MCA portal specifically. The certificate itself is fine — that portal's separate registration step is missing.

Do I need to re-register my DSC every time I renew it?

Yes. A renewed DSC is technically a new certificate, so it must be registered fresh on each portal even if your previous certificate was already mapped there.

Can I register my DSC on a portal before I need to file?

Yes, and it's good practice — registering proactively avoids discovering registration issues right when you're under deadline pressure.
